Course Overview:
While the Certification of Death is a task that can only be performed by a medically qualified Practitioner other Health Care Professionals can verify the fact of death.
This workshop will prepare the delegate for this role and equip them with the essential skills and knowledge required for the Verification of Death.
Course Content:
The session covers a wide range of issues including:
The NMC state that “a registered nurse may confirm or verify death has occurred, providing there is an explicit local protocol in place to allow such an action, which includes guidance on when other authorities, e.g. the police or the coroner, should be informed prior to removal of the body”.
To comply with this statement the education can be structured around the local policy which applies to the delegates.
This workshop aims not only to enable students to develop the skills and knowledge required to verify death but also to have a critical understanding of wider issues. This is vital as key facts about the process of death verification and certification are often misunderstood and can be confused.
At the end of this workshop students will have a full understanding of all the relevant issues and terms.
