Hallam Medical does the Great North Run

Posted by: Elizabeth Taylor 6 Sep 18  | Latest News

We would like to wish our Head of Client Development, Ashley Garner good luck as he is due to take part in the Great North run on Sunday to raise money for Cancer Research UK- a cause very close to our hearts.

Ashley started running three years ago to aid his recovery after an ACL reconstruction and triple meniscus tear in his knee.

Having now fully recovered from surgery Ashley has turned an activity, which began as just a part of his physiotherapy and recovery into something much more.

Since 2017 Ashley and a friend decided to give themselves an additional push to raise money for Cancer Research UK. So far the friends have raised more than £1,000 and have completed ten 10km races before this weekend’s Great North Run, for this worthy cause.

Ashley started his running journey by walking and has gradually increased his training to 5km – 6km training runs.

The Simply Health Great North Run is the UK’s biggest half marathon and will see Ashley, his friend along with around 50,000 other runners complete the 13.1 mile journey from Newcastle's city centre to the coast in South Shields.

We would also like to wish the very best of luck to one of our lovely Advanced Nurse Practitioners Melanie Baker-Hunt, who is also taking part in the Great North Run on Sunday.

Melanie started running in 2011 following her daughter’s cancer diagnosis she will be taking part in the race on Sunday to raise money for The Ellen MacArthur Cancer Trust charity, who support children and young people to rebuild their confidence after cancer.
Melanie said: “It is a charity that helped my daughter cope following her own battle with cancer, and they deserve all the support they can get”
